How to Choose a Newborn Carrier

• Newborn support: Look for proper head/neck support and an ergonomic “M” leg position that protects developing hips.
• Carrier type: Structured (buckle) carriers are quick and supportive; wraps and hybrids offer a snugger, more customizable hold.
• Adjustability: A carrier that adjusts to both parents and grows with baby offers the best long-term value.
• Comfort: Padded straps and a supportive waistband spread baby’s weight across your hips and shoulders.
• Ease of use: One-click buckles and simple wraps make solo carrying easier day to day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of carrier is best for a newborn?

Both soft wraps and structured carriers work well if they provide proper head support and an ergonomic hip position. Wraps feel snug; buckle carriers are quicker to use.

Is babywearing safe for newborns?

Yes, when positioned correctly — baby high and upright, chin off chest, face visible, airway clear. Follow the T.I.C.K.S. safe-babywearing guidelines.

Do I need a newborn insert?

Some structured carriers require an insert or newborn setting for the smallest babies. Check that your carrier supports your baby’s weight and size range.

How long can I use a newborn carrier?

Convertible carriers like the Infantino Flip and Boba X grow with baby into toddlerhood, giving you years of use from one purchase.

Final Thoughts

The right newborn carrier keeps baby close and you hands-free. Choose an easy wrap like the Koala for snug newborn cuddles, or a convertible buckle carrier like the Boba X or Infantino Flip that grows with your child — comfort and bonding from day one.
